  • The Heart of Relationships

    The Heart of Relationships

Explore the foundations of conscious relationships, including intention, curiosity, acceptance, commitment and the deeper meaning of love beyond Valentine’s Day.

    Beyond Valentine’s Day

Today is Valentine’s Day. For some, it is joyful, bursting with potential, and for others, perhaps a bitter reminder of what once was. Beyond the chocolates, flowers and bedsheets, how do we find peace, meaning and happiness in our relationships?

Relationships are complex and require attention and willingness to make them work.

The success of any relationship depends on factors like intention, awareness, curiosity, acceptance, and commitment.

    Intention Comes First

To find gold in our relationships, we should start by considering our intentions. Why are we in this partnership? What is the purpose of this relationship? Do we want to support each other’s growth, encourage individuality, and learn from each other?

It’s okay to desire something from someone else in a relationship. We can uphold the highest standards in some relationships. However, it’s important to always approach relationships honestly and clearly, even if our intentions are not entirely pure. We should also aim to live up to higher values, even if we cannot consistently achieve them.

Once we know why we are in a relationship, we automatically increase our awareness of ourselves and our partner. We can identify what works and what doesn’t work in the relationship with purpose and awareness.

    Choosing Curiosity Over Judgement

At times, we find ourselves in a state of confusion and uncertainty. We become aware of something within ourselves, others, or our connections that we cannot comprehend. Our initial response is to step back or remove it altogether. We tend to think that if something makes us feel uneasy, it must be avoided at any cost. If we don’t like someone’s behaviour, we automatically end the relationship, which leads to no happiness. It only brings complications, difficulties, and hard work.

As a result, we tend to form opinions about ourselves and others, and we miss out on the opportunity to be curious and understand better.

We should approach obstacles with an inquisitive mind to find a solution that works for everyone.

    Acceptance Before Action

Acceptance is vital to finding joy in our relationships. When we can accept our limitations, the imperfections of others, and situations for what they are, we move closer to surrender, a compassionate mind, and heart.

With all these in place, we can make an informed decision about where we stand with ourselves, the others and the relationship and/or situation. We can make a commitment, or we can walk out.

    A Higher Love

It’s easy to label relationships as toxic, unstable, or low-value and move on. Still, we can find peace, joy, and meaning in every relationship we have with everyone and everything.

May you be purposeful and filled with curiosity, awareness, and acceptance. May you be committed to a higher love.

    Happy Valentine’s Day!

  • Kundalini Shakti – Your Special Power

Kundalini Shakti – Your Special Power

Explore Kundalini Shakti as a force of transformation, healing and spiritual awakening, and how yogic practice can help us release inherited and unconscious patterns.

I wonder if any of you can relate to an overwhelming desire for death and rebirth that is present throughout life?

The Wish for Death and Rebirth

Desperate thoughts of starting from scratch, all fresh and renewed have travelled with me through the years. It seems that the older I get, the more desperate the calls. Does anyone relate to this? Those moments when you wish that all the tension in all your body, mind and heart would just dissipate and vanish forever. All that everything that you have carried with you for so long, a wish that all that would be vanquished, like it never happened.

I imagine it to be a return to an original state of being, a state of purity, connection and bliss.

This is a wish that has shown up on frequent occasions throughout my life.

A Moment of Realisation on the Bus

Sat on the bus yesterday, it dawned on me that my wish was coming true. Not quite in the way that I had imagined, but none the less, something had been shifting in my life and I can only attribute it to a process of dying out the old and birthing in the new.

It is obvious that not one of us (unless you’re a special yogi with super shakti powers) will die and come back to life, picking up where we left off full of vigour and inspiration.

No, this is not possible. But why then do so many of us relate to this concept of rebirth?

My little moment of realisation on the bus allowed me to see how this process that we all yearn for is a latent potential within us all.

    What Is Kundalini Shakti?

Kundalini Shakti is the primordial force of the being. It is a latent potential that lies dormant within us all. It is a latent spiritual force that once awakened, seeks ultimate connection and union with the Divine.

I came to realise that the process of Kundalini awakening includes dying and being born again.

How Kundalini Moves Through the Body

Kundalini works in its own time according to its own intelligence. To reach the highest levels of consciousness, the entire mind-body system needs to be brought back into purity, balance, and receptivity of macro-cosmic energies. Yogis do this through special practices, even just practising yoga postures can help with this.

Imagine Kundalini Shakti as a wave or force of energy that moves from the perineum or base of the spine to above the crown of the head. When the energy starts to move upwards, it might come across some obstacles or blockages. The energy will try its best to remove the blockage and overcome the hurdle. Sometimes it takes a bit longer, so the energy moves to the first available space surrounding the blockages. This can lead to complications over an extended period of time. This happens when the system is not a hundred per cent ready for the complete ascension.

    Why a Yogic Practice Matters

For this reason, kundalini awakening must be accompanied by a traditional yogic practice to assist the body, emotions and mind in the most harmonious and beneficial way. If the energy tries to move up over a period of time but keeps on hitting the same block, perhaps in the chest area, at its worst this could lead to serious health complications such as heart disease or even heart attack.

In the wise words of all my enlightened teachers and gurus, it is best to live a lifestyle that compliments and is supportive of spiritual awakening, soul ascension and all the intricacies that come with that. Of course, you can do whatever you like, but there are certain things that will make the journey more pleasurable and other things that make it almost frightening and dreadful.

    Healing Through the Blockages

When the Kundalini moves through a blockage or impurity what happens is a moment of deep healing and self-realisation. To understand this we have to understand what the cause of these imbalances is.

Humans are a blueprint of everything that is the universe, and in the same way, the universe is a massive copy of us humans. The purpose of yoga is to put the human being in resonance with universal energies. Ultimately when we are in complete resonance with the universe, vibrating at the same frequencies, that could lead to enlightenment.

    What Is Enlightenment?

    What is enlightenment?

Simply put, enlightenment is knowing the truth. Enlightenment is understanding our true nature and the ultimate reality.

    What is our true nature?

Tat Tvam Asi – Thou Art That.

    The Role of the Ego

What takes us out of reality, away from the truth, is ego.

Our egos are strengthened by everything that happens to us in life. It is our perception that determines our life experience. It is our level of consciousness that determines how we perceive this life and everything in it.

We must understand that the soul is formless, there is no ego. There is just oneness. We separate from this Oneness when we come to this earth and life. We are born and we immediately start taking on roles according to sex, class, religion, race, title etc. Things happen to us and we make things happen over the course of our lives. This all determines how we experience this version of reality, what we do, say, think, feel etc.

    Inherited and Unconscious Patterns

But it does not end there! What our parents, teachers, friends, neighbours think, say and do also determine how our egos develop and how we perceive life. To take it further, we know now that we carry historical information from our ancestors with us in our genes, causing us again to experience life in a certain way. If we look close enough, we will see that this is a predetermined way of living that is bound by karma.

Take another close look and we notice that this is an unconscious way of living.

When considering our existence from this perspective, we can clearly see that we live our lives in an almost predetermined way with very little control to create the lives we want to live. We find that we are never really in the present moment, and of course, by now we know that the present moment is all there is. Yet, we oscillate between the past and the future, most of the time past and future that is fabricated from our own tainted expectations and experiences. We restrict ourselves with an unconscious attachment to ideas of who we are, how others are and what the world is and in so doing we make the ego almost steadfast and unbreakable while allowing it to be our personal reference to truth.

Living life at this level allows no room to respond to the need of each moment, it promotes reactiveness which almost always comes from the place of the ego.

    Kundalini as the Healing Force

It is living from the level of the ego, that produces the blockages and imbalance present in us all. It is through a spiritual awakening that we iron out the creases and paves the way to a life lived with purpose.

Kundalini fixes what is broken, it brings back to good health that which is ill. It adjusts, regroups and redirects bringing alignment, vitality, creativity and joy. Kundalini makes new of a situation that otherwise seemed hopeless. Kundalini Shakti is that element of hope, magic and power that we all have within us.

We all have this potential within us, it is just a matter of waking up!

Never Too Late to Begin Again

To become enlightened is to become conscious, alert and aware. In order for us to completely embrace the ultimate reality, the tainted part of us has to die. We have to let go of the old to make space for the new.

“Never too late. Never too old. Never too sick to start from scratch and begin again.”

Yoga gifts us the wonderful opportunity of rebirth and regeneration. It gives us the tools to come into the present moment, to shake off the ego. It illuminates the path in this life that will lead to liberation. That is ultimately why we have come here, or did we forget again?

That which needs filling the most is our need for self-actualisation. It is the highest human need and absolutely essential in “winning life”.

  • The Pinnacle of your Pleasure is Spiritual

The Pinnacle of your Pleasure is Spiritual

An exploration of female pleasure, orgasm and spirituality, examining how intimacy, embodiment and expanded consciousness intersect within Tantra.

What on this good earth does an orgasm have to do with spirituality? Isn’t the idea that orgasms can lead to expanded consciousness, healing and spiritual evolution just a wee bit far fetched?

I am here to tell you that it is not at all that far fetched. Women are capable of having up to 7 different types of orgasms!

It’s a divinely delicious skill that all women have available to them.

Why is it that out of all the potential different orgasms that we can have, we resort to having one of the most common and feeble orgasms? If we have any at all! Because let’s face it, not all of us are dipping into our wells of divine pleasure.

    Lack of Education and Interest

The first thing I discovered when I started practising sexual tantra, was that I didn’t know my intimate bits at all as well as I should have.

I was aware of one or maybe two orgasms: Clitoral and G-Spot. The clitoris was an easy one to pinpoint but anything happening inside my yoni (vagina) was a complete mystery! Many women relate to their vaginas like they were cities in China, never tapping into the magic they carry inside of them.

I didn’t have an instruction manual to show me the different orgasmic points I had available to me. To be quite honest, I also didn’t bother to find out for myself because sex was mostly my husband’s interest and instigation.

The common complaint in most couples is that “she is never interested” and “he is overly interested”.

I think the main reason for a lack of interest in sex from women comes down to a lack of education and experience. When we don’t know that there is more to orgasming than stimulating the clitoris, and we when we don’t know how to troubleshoot our way towards a smoother and pleasurable orgasmic experience … Well, then how are we ever going to experience earth-shattering pleasure?

Of course, there are many other reasons that promote a lack of interest in sex such as trauma or fear of intimacy.

    Pleasure/Performance Pressure

Some men have a tendency to ejaculate within or under 7 minutes. It takes a woman 20 minutes or more just to warm up! Her first orgasm can come anywhere from 30 minutes to much further into the lovemaking session. I’m not talking about you ladies who are able to orgasm from the moment your beau touches you until you fall asleep! In general, it takes longer for women to reach orgasm than it does men.

From my own past experiences and from the countless stories that I’ve heard from other women, there is nothing more frustrating than putting out and not getting anything back in return.

Because of this many women feel extra pressure to perform and race towards the slightest glimpse of orgasmic pleasure … anything will do!

The quickest and easiest orgasm that most women have comes from clitoral stimulation. If we do not have the skill to sublime the potent life-supporting energy that comes from this type of orgasm, it becomes the nemesis in developing our full feminine potential.

    Fear of Intimacy

Having quick and explosive orgasms doesn’t help the cause in cultivating a deeper connection with our partner or our Self.

My ex-husband was always a sensual and generous lover. The sexual chemistry between us had always been compelling. But, like most long term relationships, we too had hit our bumps in the road when it came to frequency and quality of lovemaking.

The victory of any couple relationship is reliant on the dissolution of the ego and the unveiling of the true Self.

Every time we make love with our partners we give and take the perfect opportunity to reveal and witness the Self.

When I realised how ignorant I had been with regards to my full orgasmic potential, it dawned on me that I was holding back on intimacy. I was holding back on discovering who I really was. I was holding back on showing my husband the truth of my being. I was so busy holding on to fear and control that I couldn’t surrender. Without my complete surrender, I could not allow complete intimacy … I couldn’t let my husband in.

    The Spiritual Connection

I’ve had enough mystical experiences through sex and orgasm to know the healing abilities and how it connects to the Divine … especially when we consciously direct our attention to God.

A few years ago I was going through a rough time. Everything was collapsing mentally, emotionally, physically. I was exhausted from holding on to control and hurt, the past, the future, self-limiting ideas and bad habits.

After spending a week apart from my husband I longed to see and feel him again. Intuitively I knew that his good and deep loving would make me feel better. Before we made love I told him not to worry if I cry or speak or make different sounds, to just go with it …. that there was something deep deep deep inside that needed to be touched. It was like I had a fever … I just surrendered, the orgasm took soooooo long (which at that time I didn’t like) and I just gave up on focussing on that and started praying to God to please just help me and take me and make me better … my eyes were closed but looking up … everything up … face, chest, back arched and focussed on God …. and then it came … I was lifted up into His arms … high … elevated … I could breathe … I could let go of control … I was safe, I was better, I was whole.

That was my first experience of a Tantric orgasm consecrated to healing and spiritual liberation.

The biggest thing that opened me to my orgasmic potential was a shift in the way I looked at sex. Before it was about control, sense gratification, and a tit-for-tat. Now it is about surrendering, healing and connecting to Self in the most sublime and meditative way.

Sexuality is such an intricate part of our day-to-day lives. It is possible to elevate this experience and use it as a tool to cultivate a life of abundance and love.

It is through embracing our existence and the power we hold within us that we align ourselves with dharma, a natural way that supports life, spirit and evolution.

  • Tantra Yoga, Chakras – What?

    Tantra Yoga, Chakras – What?

An introduction to Tantra Yoga, chakras and spiritual practice, exploring how the body becomes a tool for healing, transformation and expanded consciousness.

Tantra is the weave or technology that connects everything in the universe. Yoga is the science that brings the microcosm (human) in resonance with the macrocosm (universe). Tantra Yoga is thus an accurate science that relies on specific techniques and practices to reach the goal of union, which results in samadhi or enlightenment.

What makes Tantra Yoga different from other forms of Yoga?

Actually … Nothing. All forms of Hatha yoga are Tantric. Anything that embraces the body and uses it as a tool in evolving is Tantric. Ancient yogis sat up in the mountains thousands of years ago and developed the asanas (physical postures) for a specific reason: To deepen their spiritual practice and speed up their evolution.

Just practising yoga stretches as part of a fitness or health routine will of course yield some holistic benefits. When we know the intricate details of how to awaken the power within us, our standard yoga practice is transformed and propels our lives in the direction of limitless possibilities, pure bliss and the grand prize of enlightenment.

In Tantra Yoga, we work with energy, shakti, kundalini. Any class will involve the conscious direction of energy to the chakras.

The chakras are main energy centres that act as vortexes through which universal consciousness penetrates.

How we receive that information depends on our level of consciousness and how receptive we are. In tantra yoga receptivity relates to how open, pure and balanced our systems are. The more tainted the energy centre, the more distorted the message coming through will be. The more open chakra is, the higher the chance of resonance.

It is through this connection that we start to see ourselves as part of a whole and start our ascent towards Self-Realization.

What can you expect in a Tantra or Chakra Yoga class?

Tantra works towards spiritual evolution and life development. An average class will move energy from the lower chakras up to the higher more spiritual ones. A class could also be dedicated to working on a specific chakra, like the heart chakra.

Classical Hatha yoga postures are used in conjunction with concentration techniques, music meditation and breathing practices that focus on directing different forms of energy to the chakras.

Staying in line with Patanjali’s recommendations on how to practice yoga, all asanas are held steady for longer lengths of time. The benefits of this on a physical level is that the body actually gets enough time to open and process the changes that have happened. It also gives us the time to quiet and steady the mind so that we can concentrate on the direction of energy and activation of the chakra.

Many other styles of yoga barely hold asanas for longer than a minute. On top of this there is a grand race to jam in as many postures into a session, not allowing enough time between postures for the real work to happen.

As the old saying goes: “Something is better than nothing.“ Having said this, we all know that cooking an organic and balanced meal at home has farther reaching benefits than a McDonald’s Happy Meal.

Can you find Tantra Yoga anywhere?

To teach Tantra Yoga you need to have spent a good amount of time studying in the presence of a self-realised guru. Tantra holds many secrets and when reading the ancient texts it can easily be misinterpreted. For this reason, the guru will deliver the teachings through a long-standing oral tradition. In this way, energy is transmitted and sacred initiations are taken. Because of this and the scarcity of authentic and traditional tantra schools, especially ones that are open to westerners, it is not easy to find tantra yoga as taught in India and Tibet.

Unfortunately, Yoga has been adjusted to “western mentality”. When prevalent Yogis first came to the west they changed the structure of their teachings so that yoga would attract more people. Initially, it was used as a tactic along the lines of “Come and try this exercise and see what benefits it brings” after which the real story of what yoga is would unfold.

In most western studios today this “real story” of what yoga is has completely fallen away. It’s all about cramming as many people into a space pushing them beyond physical limits. If the room can be heated to some bizarre temperature even better, because then at least they will feel like they worked hard. It’s more about profit and physical exercise. This is not yoga. A student cannot progress in the 8 stages of yoga if all components are not practised.

The same can be said for Tantra. If you Google Tantra right now you will see posts and pictures of what the west has labelled Neo-Tantra. What is Neo-Tantra? That’s the stuff that gets us hot under the collar and blushing when we hear the word tantra. The same as Yoga, the emphasis is on physical and sense gratification, with healing and spiritual enlightenment as a far off option for only some.

    Is it for me?

Tantra Yoga is suitable for any person who wants to live the life they were born to live. That is a life of abundance, ease, prosperity, joy and love. It is our birthright to have a good life. Everything that we’ve ever dreamed of is at our fingertips.
